Matthew Morrison let slip his workout details and dieting secrets in several interviews. The Glee star recently made the cover of Details, flashing his famous six pack during the photo shoot.
Matthew Morrison's Workout Secrets:
Cardio Workout Five Days a Week
Morrison cycles about 100 miles a week and runs about 25 miles a week, mixing short and long distance running and he uses and has a video workout on his iPhone called ":08 min. Abs," which he does between scenes.
Weight Training One Muscle Group a Day
Like a many other stars that have to keep their Hollywood Bodies (Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel), Matthew focuses on one muscle group for no more than 20 minutes during each workout - as opposed to doing and entire body workout each session and adds in resistance training four times a week.
Surfing
Morrison paddle boards on his days off, he rides the waves, both kneeling and standing on the board. "I spent a lot of time in Hawaii, and you see people out there doing it all the time," he says. "I got my own board. It's a great core workout." The combination of balancing on the board and paddling works his core abs and obliques and all upper body muscles - front, back and shoulders.
Matthew Morrison Diet Secrets:
Morrison says he is limits himself to healthy snacks — "only a handful of nuts a day". And no fruit after dark, "Too much sugar," he explains.
When it's time to show off his famous six pack, he eats extra healthy and a few days before hand uses the sweet-potato-only diet. He eats strictly sweet potatoes for three days and he claims it helps him to keep his six pack abs defined.
A bodybuilder food staple, high-fiber, high-protein sweet potatoes deliver a one-two punch of great nutritional value per calorie and is a natural diuretic.
Morrison was quoted in Details magazine, saying:
"I had to have a six-pack on show, the potato acts as a sponge and your body literally shrinks and gets ripped and tight."
